Course Offering

High School for Teaching and the Professions, A Magnet School for Aspiring 21st Century Educators and Leaders, is committed to educating all students through our Teaching and Leadership Pathways by empowering student voice and placing students at the center of their learning.

Our community school model provides students and families with a hub for academic and emotional support for the whole child.

T&P is an AVID School…

In the AVID Elective class, students receive daily instruction and support from a trained AVID Elective teacher where students are guided through writing, inquiry, collaboration, organizational skills, and critical reading (WICOR).

Students then take ownership of these skills and become advocates for their learning in each of their classes.

T&P is a Future Ready School…

FutureReady offers students access to career-connected learning opportunities such as the Career Explorations Elective, Career Discovery Week, WorkPlace Learning Challenge, and courses within the Teaching Pathway.

FutureReady students also earn college credits aligned to the education pathway for preparedness within the labor market.

T&P’s College Partnerships…

Through our partnership with CUNY Lehman College, located right next door, our students have the opportunity to gain college credits after school.

Some of these courses are even taught by our own teachers. Through our partnership with Bronx Community College, our students are offered the opportunity to earn dual-credit.

T&P Internships & Apprenticeships…

Students also participate in field experiences in the form of internships, mentor ships, and apprenticeships as well as join and propose clubs centered around the theme 21st Century Educators and Leaders.

One of our programs, Peer Group Connections, recruits and trains 11th grade students to serve as mentors to the incoming 9th grade students. These courses, projects, club, and field experience opportunities will be available during the school day, after school, and over the summer.

T&P is a Nest school and Bilingual Education Program school…

The Nest Program serves autistic learners in an ICT classroom. It was implemented at T&P in September 2022 and provides specialized teaching strategies for students with autism, including a special social curriculum called Social Development Intervention (SDI) developed by NYU.

The Transitional bilingual Education program serves Multi-lingual language learners with IEPs and uses the student’s native language (Spanish) to strengthen and accelerate their English Language Acquisition with the goal of integrating the bilingual education students gradually to the monolingual class.
